A Derbyshire town’s bus station is closing for four months from 1 July.

Alfreton Bus Station, in Hall Street, is being shut for up to 16 weeks for “reconstruction and improvement works”, said Derbyshire County Council.

Buses will be disrupted into October by the closure, with temporary stops in place and services moved to alternative stops.

A county council spokesperson said: “The project will focus on improving accessibility, particularly for those with limited or restricted mobility, and on providing new passenger waiting areas.”

Work will include new shelters, seating and litter bins, while resurfacing will take place in and around the site.

The layout will also be changed to make it easier for buses to move through the site.

Check before travelling

During the work, temporary bus stops will be operating from New Street and Hall Street.

Displaced bus station routes will also depart from existing stops in High Street, King Street, Marshall Street and Cressy Road.

Passengers are advised to check services with their bus operator before travelling.

Affected operators include Trent Barton, Stagecoach, Hulleys of Baslow, and Derbyshire Community Transport.

From Monday, Matlock Bus Station will also be closed for a week as part of ongoing improvement works.

Derbyshire County Council said bus services will use Bakewell Road, Causeway Lane and Matlock Interchange close to the town’s railway station, during the work.

Services operated by Trent Barton, High Peak, Hulleys of Baslow, Stagecoach and Derbyshire Community Transport will be affected.
