The break-in was reported to Devon and Cornwall Police at about 07:15 BST on Thursday, a day after an episode of the BBC documentary Saving Lives at Sea featuring Crantock Lifeguards aired.

In a post on Facebook, external, RNLI Lifeguards Newquay said after celebrating the lifeguards' incredible work, they discovered that a secure container had been broken into overnight and an all-terrain vehicle stolen.

"This is essential lifesaving equipment, paid for by our generous donors and is vital for allowing our lifeguards to respond to incidents quickly on the beach at Crantock," it said.
