Man charged with assault after death at holiday park

A 21-year-old man has been charged with assault after a 33-year-old man died at a holiday park in Inverclyde.

Police Scotland were called to an incident in Rothesay Gardens in Weymss Bay at about 00:05 on Sunday.

The man, who has not been named, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The force confirmed the 21-year-old man had been arrested and charged in connection with the incident. A 28-year-old woman arrested in connection with assault was later released, pending further inquiry.

A police spokesperson added: "Inquiries remain ongoing."

The 21-year-old man is due to appear at Greenock Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

A Wemyss Bay Holiday Park spokesperson said: "We continue to support police with their investigations and, as such, cannot comment further.

"Our deepest condolences are with the family and loved ones of the deceased at this extremely difficult time."
