Tributes have been paid to a "well-loved" man who died on the A27 in Lewes.

Emergency services were called at about 15:30 BST on 13 September to a report that a person had been hit by a vehicle near the westbound Esso Garage.

Paramedics worked to save 44-year-old Elio De Gregori, from Tunbridge Wells, Kent, but he was pronounced dead at the roadside.

Sussex Police said inquiries continued around the circumstances of the crash and a report was being prepared for the East Sussex coroner.

Mr De Gregori's family wrote in a statement: "We wouldn't ever want to write these words.

"Elio was much loved and will be missed.

"He has left lasting memories in his family, and we all pray to the blessed Virgin that his soul might find peace."

Sussex Police has urged anyone with information or dashcam footage from the time of the crash to come forward.
