Work has started on an extension at a primary school in a growing Leicestershire community.

The construction project will allow New Lubbesthorpe Primary School to increase its pupil numbers from 420 to 630 when it is complete.

The single-storey extension is being built behind the school, which opened in 2019, and will include nine new classrooms for children in Years four, five and six.

Architects GSS, which designed the original school, said the extension would also include breakout rooms, sports and play facilities, a wildlife area, and extra staff parking.

The school serves the new area of New Lubbesthorpe, near Leicester Forest East, where 4,250 homes are currently being built.

More than 1,200 homes have already been completed, with the development expected to be completed by about 2035.
