Months of roadworks are set to begin in order to improve traffic flow on a major motorway slip road.

Construction on the A43 Padbury roundabout at junction 10 of the M40 in Oxfordshire will start later.

The southbound slip road will be closed every weekday night between 21:30 and 06:00 BST, with drivers forced to divert to junction nine and back.

The upgrades are being made to help accommodate increased traffic from housing developments, according to Oxfordshire County Council.

Work will involve widening the motorway's existing southbound slip road off junction 10 to three lanes on the approach to the roundabout.

Smart traffic lights will also be installed.

All lanes will be open as normal throughout the day, the council says

One lane of the M40 southbound is expected to close overnight on weekdays, until work finishes in spring next year.

During the day, the lane will be reopened and the southbound slip road will have a temporary 50mph speed limit.

The A43 would also need to be closed overnight periodically, with dates to be confirmed, the council added.
