A man has admitted trying to kill his partner after a stabbing outside a primary school.

Barze Faesal, 30, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to attempted murder, making threats to kill and stalking at Luton Crown Court on Friday.

A woman was stabbed in Dunstable Road, Luton, at about 08:30 BST on 21 May, close to Beech Hill Primary School.

Det Insp Jon Wheeler said: "This was a terrifying attack on a woman who was targeted by a man who refused to believe the relationship was over."

Faesal had previously pleaded not guilty to attempted murder at a hearing in June.

Det Insp Wheeler added: "The victim lived in fear during their relationship, and even when she tried to leave, that fear followed her as Faesal continued his pattern of behaviour.

"No woman deserves to feel unsafe and scared for their life. We understand how difficult it is for victims of domestic abuse to come forward, and we understand that is not always a plain sailing journey, but we are here to help."

Faesal will be sentenced on 13 November.
