Self-catering lets set to be approved

Plans to turn a guest house into a number of self-catering apartments are set to be approved.
The Lake District National Park Authority has been recommended to approve proposals to convert Brantholme Guest House in Millans Park, Ambleside, into six holiday lets.
However, Lakes Parish Council said there was already an "abundant" amount of holiday lets in the area and the "trend was contributing to a significant decline in traditional bed-and-breakfast establishments".
Applicant Brantholme Ambleside Ltd said the proposed conversion was in response to the "market demand" for this type of accommodation.
The plans involve the creation of four two-bedroom, one one-bedroom and one three-bedroom apartments, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
Brantholme Guest House currently operates with seven double en-suite bedrooms and a three-bedroom owners’ accommodation in the basement.
Planning documents detail it would "update the existing building in a sympathetic manner and have a positive effect on the existing business".
A response from the parish council to the plans states: "The proposed apartments will increase the number of holiday lets, which are already abundant in the area.
"This trend is contributing to a significant decline in traditional Bed & Breakfast establishments, disrupting the balance of guest accommodation types in the Lake District."
The planning application will be discussed by the development control committee on 4 September in Kendal.
