'Utterly shocking': Police officer's sexualised game

Sgt James Vandecar was dismissed from Essex Police after he behaved in a inappropriate manner.

A police officer has been dismissed for "sexist and misogynistic behaviour" towards colleagues.

Sgt James Vandecar was ordered to leave Essex Police after a misconduct hearing which concluded on 5 June.

The officer instigated an inappropriate and sexualised game while seven junior officers were on duty in August 2021.

Dep Ch Con Andy Prophet said: "The actions of Sgt Vandecar were utterly shocking.

"I would like to praise the courage of the officer who rightly came forward to report his reprehensible behaviour.

"The force is committed to tackling all offending against women and girls across Essex."

Essex Police stated after the hearing: "He [Sgt Vandecar] repeatedly made comments and behaved in a manner which was inappropriate, sexist, offensive, derogatory and unprofessional."

It was found the officer breached standards of professional behaviour in the areas of authority, respect and courtesy, equality and diversity, duties and responsibilities and discreditable conduct.
