A statue which was a main feature of a West Sussex town centre has been given a new home in a nearby park.

Officially called the Boy and the Sturgeon, but also known locally as the Boy and the Dolphin, the statue was placed in Queens Square in Crawley in the 1950s.

It was moved to a courtyard in the old town hall when the square was being renovated, before being put in storage when the new town hall opened.

It has now been placed in a walled garden in Tilgate Park, close to the pond.

Crawley Borough Council leader Michael Jones said: "The Boy and Sturgeon statue holds a special place in Crawley's history and hearts.

"Its new home in Tilgate Park's Walled Garden means residents and visitors can continue to enjoy this much-loved landmark.

"It's definitely worth a visit next time you are in Tilgate Park."
