Police get more time to question baby death suspects

Police have been given more time to question three people arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a newborn baby.

Officers were called to a property on Norwich Road in Ipswich, Suffolk, at 12:35 GMT on Saturday. The body of a baby was found outside.

Paramedics also attended but the baby was pronounced dead at the scene.

Suffolk Constabulary said it had until Monday evening to question two males and a female after it applied for a warrant of further detention at Ipswich Magistrates' Court on Sunday.

"Detectives are treating this as an isolated incident however this will understandably cause concern in the local area," the force said.

"Members of the public are encouraged to approach officers and discuss any concerns they may have."

A post-mortem examination and formal identification is expected to take place later.

A cordon remains in place at the scene.
