Police are searching for a man caught on CCTV smearing a substance on the outside of two synagogues and along a passageway used by worshippers in Golders Green, north London.
In a fourth, connected, incident, police say a liquid was thrown towards a school nearby. It is being reported in The Jewish News, external that the substances used were faeces and urine.
The alleged anti-Semitic attacks, which took place over the past week, are being investigated by the Metropolitan Police as religiously motivated criminal damage.
Det Supt Tony Bellis said: "This is a revolting and appalling act and we are urging the public to help us locate those responsible as soon as possible."

Shomrim volunteers collected CCTV following the incidents and handed it to police
Images of the attacks captured on local CCTV were gathered by Shomrim - a group of neighbourhood watch volunteers, who patrol the streets of north-east London, specifically Jewish areas - and handed to police.
A Shomrim NW spokesperson said the attacks were "a deliberate and disgraceful anti-Semitic act targeting places of worship and members of our community".
They added: "It is utterly disgusting, and those responsible must be caught and brought to justice.
"Nobody should have to face such hatred when going to pray or at their own home."
