A paedophile who sexually assaulted a girl when she was just three or four years old and then a decade later when she was 14 has been jailed.

Gary Wanless, 50, from Morecambe, admitted the serious child sexual offences which took place in the resort.

Det Con Kirsten Bell said Wanless "has a clear sexual interest in children" and she welcomed his sentence. She praised the victim saying she has been "incredibly brave throughout the whole process".

Wanless was sentenced at Preston Crown Court to eight years in prison and was also given a 15-year sexual harm prevention order and a 15-year restraining order. He was ordered to sign the sex offenders' register for life.
