A primary school has been rated as "good" following an Ofsted inspection.

Guernsey States said Forest Primary School had achieved the rating in all five categories inspectors considered during their visit on 7 and 8 February.

Ofsted said the school did well for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and had a "rich and varied reading curriculum".

It was the first inspection at the school since the island switched to using Ofsted instead of Education Scotland in 2021.

An area of improvement highlighted by Ofsted was some subject areas not being as developed as others.

Ofsted rates schools as either excellent, good, requires improvement or inadequate.

The school was classed as good in the following categories by Ofsted:

  • The quality of education

  • Behaviour and attitudes

  • Personal development and welfare

  • Leadership and management

  • Early years provision

Strong focus on curriculum

Ofsted said the school was "aspirational for all pupils" and children with SEND and complex needs progress well because adults make necessary adaptations.

Other areas praised by inspectors included pupils having a positive attitude to learning, pupil personal development and a strong focus on developing a well-sequenced curriculum that supports pupils.

However, inspectors added some subjects such as maths were better developed than others at the school, adding the "key knowledge the school wants pupils to know and remember is not clearly set out".

Head teacher 'proud'

Forest head teacher Paula Sullivan said she is delighted following the inspection and thanked staff, pupils and the wider school community.

Mrs Sullivan said: " I consider myself incredibly lucky to lead this school with pupils and staff who make me proud.

"External inspections are never easy and to receive good ratings in all categories is recognition of what we are doing."
