An 81-year-old man has pleaded not guilty after being charged following protests in Nottingham city centre.

The demonstrations on 3 August were among several that took place around the country following the killings of three young girls at a dance class in Southport.

Keith Edwards denied using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour during the protest.

He is believed to be the oldest person to be charged in the wake of the disorder that broke out across the country.

Mr Edwards, of Kinglake Place, The Meadows, Nottingham, wore a brown blazer and dark trousers when he appeared at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Friday.

His case was adjourned and he will next appear at the same court on 7 October.

Mr Edwards was released on unconditional bail.
