Learning disability charity gets £140,000 grant

A charity that supports adults with learning disabilities has received £140,000 in National Lottery funding., external

Oakfield Community, external, which operates services in Easton Maudit and Yardley Hastings in Northamptonshire, will use the grant to expand its Seed-to-Plate and Care Farm sessions from two to 10 per week over the next three years.

The sessions offer activities including animal care, planting, harvesting and cooking with fresh produce.

Sara Morrison, chair of trustees at Oakfield Community, said the funding would "make [the service] available to a larger number of people, and offer a greater variety of activities".

Oakfield Community was founded in 1981 and is an established provider of accommodation, care, and support for adults with learning disabilities in Northamptonshire.

With the recent funding, there are now plans to expand the Care Farm and Seed-to-Plate in the Easton Maudit area.

Lisa Munro, mother of Max and Billy, who have autism, praised the activities as "fantastic" for her sons, allowing them to be outdoors while developing new skills.

Oakfield Community will host an open day on 20 September to showcase its services and upcoming plans.
