The final phase of a Derbyshire town’s bus station revamp is set to begin.

A project to upgrade the area in and around Matlock’s bus station and taxi rank in Bakewell Road has been ongoing since January.

The latest Derbyshire County Council-led work to create space to allow more than one bus to pull up, as well as install a new higher kerb to make alighting easier, has been completed.

Now, Derbyshire Dales District Council is preparing to carry out improvement works “to create a comfortable waiting area for bus and taxi passengers”.

These include installing larger windows, decorations, seating, energy efficient lighting and real-time bus information screens.

No roadworks will be required for the final phase of the scheme, said Derbyshire Dales District Council.

A district council spokesperson said: “A start on site is anticipated soon and a further update will be provided regarding arrangements for bus and taxi users ahead of work starting.”

Shrubs nearby have already been removed with planting and gravel in its place.

A deep clean of the building has also been carried out.
