Twenty seven homes affected by burst-pipe flooding

Five people were forced to leave their homes after the flood on Friday morning

Twenty seven homes have been affected by a burst water main that caused a flood, a water company has confirmed.

South East Water has apologised for the leak which caused flooding or pressure outages around Trinidad Close, Malta Close, Falkland Road and Carpenters Down in Basingstoke, Hampshire on Friday morning.

Five people living in affordable housing in the area have been moved into temporary accommodation.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council previously said it had been working to support residents, including help finding temporary housing.

South East Water's distribution manager, Gavin Jobling, said: "We're working with customers at 27 properties affected by the flooding following the burst main in Basingstoke.

"At this stage, we're working to dry out these properties before we can begin to process the insurance claims. We are very sorry to all customers affected by this."

Beth Holmyard, head of neighbourhoods at affordable housing provider VIVID Homes, said it was continuing to support customers affected by the burst.

"Due to the water damage, we've moved five customers into temporary accommodation.

"Ensuring our customers are safe is our priority and those in temporary accommodation return home as quickly as possible."

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council previously said its street cleaning team was helping clear up debris on the affected roads.
