A petrol station has been forced to close after a vehicle collided with a fuel pump.

Emergency services said the Jet garage on Catterick Road in Colburn, North Yorkshire, would be shut "for some time" after the incident earlier.

A petrol pump has been destroyed by the impact from a Land Rover Discovery, and a Jaguar was also damaged. Casualties have also been taken to hospital.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Staff were quick in acting and isolated the fuel pumps straight away."

The spokesperson also said: "Crews made the scene safe with foam covering jet and sand was used to cover fuel across the forecourt."

Crews would be leaving following the removal of vehicles, the service added.

The BBC has contacted North Yorkshire Police for comment.
