New recycling system to be decided this week

A decision on the future of recycling in Wiltshire will be made this week, the council has said.
Households will have their food waste collected weekly and flexible plastics recycled in 2027 if a new Three Stream system is agreed.
“Any potential change that affects all households in the county cannot be done lightly and that’s why we’ve carried out an extensive level of due diligence to ensure the options we’re considering are the right ones,” councillor Dominic Muns, cabinet member for waste, said.
The council’s cabinet will make a decision at a meeting on 19 November.
The new system means residents would be asked to put recycling in a wheelie bin or weighted reusable sack for paper and cardboard.
Mixed plastics, cans, cartons, and bagged flexible plastics would be collected in a second bin or sack, and a box for glass.
The council said the new system would be more cost effective than just adding separate weekly collections of food waste and including flexible plastics to the current service.
“It’s important to note that making this decision will just be the first step, and that residents will not see any changes to their collections for a few years," Mr Muns added.
