Two people had to be rescued by firefighters when their car became stuck in flood water.

The man and woman were trapped in a BMW on the A515 in Kings Bromley, Staffordshire, at about 08:30 GMT.

A water rescue sledge was used to free the pair, who were not injured, said the fire service.

The road was closed, with motorists urged not to try to drive through flooded routes.

In the Staffordshire Moorlands, the A523 in Winkhill was also closed in both directions due to flooding.

Flooding has also led to Saturday's racing at Uttoxeter being called off.

The track was not viable after "excessive" rainfall overnight and more forecast on Friday, the course said in a social media post, external.
