A man has been jailed for violent disorder and arson over last year's unrest in the Harehills area of Leeds.

Lewis McArdle-Rose was sentenced to 20 months in prison at Leeds Crown Court on Tuesday after pleading guilty to both offences.

The trouble in Harehills in July 2024 began after police arrived to help social workers who were taking four children into emergency foster care. Hundreds of people later took to the streets and a double-decker bus was set on fire.

McArdle-Rose, 20, of North Parkway in Seacroft, was the 29th person to be convicted in relation to the unrest, West Yorkshire Police said.

He previously appeared at court alongside a 16-year-old girl.

Last month, the girl was given a given a referral order requiring her to take part in a 12-month rehabilitative programme.

A total of 85 people have been arrested in relation to the disorder, with 46 of them being charged, according to a West Yorkshire Police spokesperson.
