A man has been arrested after a car crash in Leicestershire left a woman in hospital.

Leicestershire Police said they were called to Glebe Way in Syston at about 22:30 GMT on Friday after vehicle hit a lamp-post.

The front seat passenger "sustained serious injuries which are believed to be life-changing", a force statement said, while the driver suffered less serious injuries but was also in hospital.

A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being unfit to drive through drink or drugs, and officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

"We are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the manner of driving before the collision and the collision itself to please get in touch."
