A man has been jailed for malicious communications ahead of Wednesday's rally in Brighton.
The force said it was made aware of a "concerning" social media post on Tuesday, and following further inquiries, two men from Worthing – aged 42 and 45 – were arrested.
Joseph Clark, 45, of Hayling Rise, was later charged with sending by public communication network an offensive message.
On Friday, he pleaded guilty at Brighton Magistrates' Court and was sentenced to 14 weeks in prison.
The 42-year-old man was released with no further action to be taken.
Preparations for potential protest activity had included the monitoring and review of a "huge amount of online information", police explained.
