Scrutiny heads review 2022-2025 government plan

Scrutiny bosses said government plans had to be "sufficient for all islanders’ wellbeing and economic recovery"

Scrutiny bosses in Jersey have launched a review of the 2022 to 2025 Government Plan, they have announced.

The Government Plan Review Panel said it would coordinate work over the next 12 weeks to examine initiatives and projects outlined in the latest version of the plan.

The panel said it was to look at spending against the priorities listed in the Common Strategic Policy, external for this current government term.

It also said it would also seek to provide an overview of the impact of the plan on the community and the economy.

The government said its priorities in the plan, external included:

  • Responding to Covid-19

  • Revitalising the economy

  • Population growth and climate change

  • Health and wellbeing

  • Investing in the future

Scutiny findings would form an integral part of the government plan debate in the States Assembly on 14 December, panel leaders said.

Chairwoman of the Government Plan Review Panel, Senator Kristina Moore, said a "thorough investigation with the support from advisers" would be carried out.

She said: "Focus will include a spotlight on budget allocations for all capital and revenue projects, ensuring they are sufficient for all islanders’ wellbeing and economic recovery."

She added it was "really important that the plan reflects islanders’ key priorities”.

Public hearings would be held with the chief minister on 15 October and 12 November, with hearings with the minister of treasury and resources due on 13 October and 15 November, she added.
