A fresh appeal for information has been made 10 months on from an attack which left a man with life-changing injuries.

West Yorkshire Police said Dawud Aslam was "lucky to be alive" after he was hit multiple times over the head with a blunt weapon while unloading shopping from a car in Tempest Road, Beeston, in January.

The force said he had been left with "long-lasting physical and mental health issues" and the attack was being treated as attempted murder.

Det Con Ian Duncan said "a lot can change in 10 months, including people's loyalties" and urged anyone with information to come forward.

Mr Aslam was with his brother on 28 January when a man approached the pair as they were parked up.

Police said Mr Aslam's brother was also attacked before he tried to intervene.

Mr Aslam suffered a number of fractures to the skull and had to undergo emergency surgery.

Det Con Duncan said: "The physical and mental impact of this assault is something he is continuing to live with though.

"He has been left with cognitive issues and an understandable fear when going out that something like this will happen again."

The officer added: "It is possible that someone may have heard rumours at the time about who was involved but not thought it was worth passing that information on to the police as they had not witnessed the crime themselves."
