Investigators close motocross track where man died

Wojtek Rozmus' friends believe he was one of the first Polish riders to break through the British motocross scene

A motocross track where two riders died has closed for the "foreseeable future" while an investigation is carried out into the latest death.

Father-of-two Wojtek Rozmus, 43, from London, had been riding the course at West Row, near Mildenhall in Suffolk, when he died on Sunday, 9 March.

West Suffolk Council, which is investigating the circumstances leading to Mr Rozmus' death said a health and safety prohibition notice had been served on Mildenhall MX Ltd, preventing the use of the site for motocross riding and practice.

In a statement, the council said: "The premises will remain closed for these activities until West Suffolk Council formally lifts the prohibition notice."

It added: "The investigation is ongoing and environmental health officers continue to work closely with the police and coroner."

On Facebook, Mildenhall MX posted: "Both tracks closed on a temporary basis. Please watch for announcements."

An online fundraiser for Mr Rozmus' family has so far raised more than £30,000.

Mr Rozmus' friend, Kyle Creevey, said, he was "not just one of my best friends but a role model to how to be the perfect man".

"His smile would light up a room, his positive outlook on life would reassure you there is a fun side to life, his passion for motocross and extreme sports was undeniable."

The death of Mr Rozmus is the second fatal incident in six months at the motocross circuit, which is next to the West Row speedway and motorsports stadium.

Rider George Edwards, 17, died while taking part in an event in September.
