Two more children have been arrested over the death of a 14-year-old boy following a fire at a disused industrial unit, bringing the total number of youngsters arrested to 26.

The body of Layton Carr was discovered in a building on Fairfield Industrial Park, in the Bill Quay area of Gateshead, on 2 May following a large blaze.

Two girls, both aged 14, were the latest to be arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and have since been released on bail, Northumbria Police said.

Just over a month since Layton's death, a fundraiser has raised more than £21,000 to help his relatives.

So far, all those arrested on suspicion of his manslaughter have been aged between 11 and 14 and all have been released on bail.
