There are 16 Residential Parking Zones in Darlington with restrictions in place during the day

Residents living in restricted parking areas are being asked to share their views on the restrictions and how well they work.

Darlington Borough Council has launched a consultation looking at issues including enforcement, the cost of permits and visitor parking.

The Labour-led authority said views would help it finesse current rules, to ensure the service is "fit for purpose".

"We want to get an understanding of how the scheme works, and where residents parking zones could possibly be introduced in the future," said Libby McCollom, cabinet member for local services.

There are currently 16 Residents' Parking Zones across the area, where parking is limited to permit holders only between 08:00 and 18:00 every day.

The questionnaire asks residents whether they experience issues such as a lack of available parking spaces and inconsiderate parking, and urges them to specify when these issues occur.

It is also seeking feeback on potential limits to the number of permits each household can hold, and costs - which currently stand at £40 for an annual permit and £12 for a three-month one.

The consultation can be filled in online via the council's website, or using paper copies available at the town hall. The deadline is 13 October.
