New rules are in place for drop-offs at Plymouth's Derriford Hospital as construction work begins on the site's Emergency Care Building.
The public access lane outside the hospital entrance had been closed to allow access for the delivery of construction materials and the use of large machinery, bosses said.
Thirty-minute drop-off and pick-up bays in Car Park F had been made available for drivers, while a free shuttle bus would transport patients from patient car parks to any entrance or department within the hospital site, they added.
University Hospitals Plymouth apologised for the inconvenience and said the construction of the facility would "move at pace" following funding from the government's New Hospital Programme., external
A shuttle bus service was running from 08:00 GMT to 18:00 Monday to Friday, the hospital said.
To use the service, patients had to call the parking desk on 01752 432000 or 07827-897431 and provide their location, it added.
University Hospitals Plymouth said taxis and buses would continue to be able to collect people from the front of the hospital.
