A number of bus services are offering free travel in Devon as part of a global event.

Devon County Council said people using selected routes operated by Stagecoach, Tally Ho, Dartline, Torbay Buses and Filers Travel would not have to pay a fare on Sunday.

The council said it is part of a scheme to mark World Car Free Day, which aims to encourage people to use alternative modes of transport.

A list of routes, external covered by the scheme has been published by the council and includes buses serving Exeter, Torquay, Plymouth and Barnstaple.

The county council said the offer which is also being supported by Torbay Council would be delivered using Bus Service Improvement Plan funding provided by the Department for Transport.

Councillor Andrea Davis, cabinet member for climate change, environment and transport, said: "Hopefully this event will encourage more people in the county to become regular bus passengers."
