A seaside tourist attraction in Kent is hosting an event for children to participate in beach cleaning and to understand recycling.

A total of 30 year 6 pupils from Salmestone Primary School will participate in the beach clean later at Margate Main Sands.

This will be followed by a recycling workshop and plastic moulding session at the Turner Contemporary art gallery.

A gallery spokesperson said it "aims to inspire the next generation to take an active role in combating ecological challenges".

The event is the gallery's contribution to mark the Great British Beach Clean.

Students will remove plastic waste from Margate’s beach while learning about the environmental impact of litter, a spokesperson said.

Thomas Platten, headteacher of Salmestone Primary School, said: "It is our aim to engage all our children in their learning, developing a love of learning and of their local natural environment."
