The levels for staying visitors in Guernsey this year has increased to a rate above pre-Covid-19 numbers, new figures say.

In August, the occupancy levels was 84%, 9% higher than the same month in 2019 and 2023.

The States of Guernsey accommodation sector said long-stay guests account for 4% of that number.

Bosses at Visit Guernsey added they remained optimistic additional promotional activity would result in a strong rates for the rest of the year.

Figures for June and July were lower than the corresponding numbers for last year.

Hannah Beacom, chair of Guernsey tourism board said: "We are definitely seeing tourists back in numbers and we are having really good feedback from those that are here.

"With August in particular the forward bookings weren't looking great and Visit Guernsey were very proactive in how they promoted the island and specifically August itself, to try and encourage people in.

"That campaign has led to late bookings and bookings closer to the time."
