A 14-year-old boy has been arrested after a machete was found by police in Nottingham.

Police said the teenager ran from officers in Huntingdon Street at about 12:00 GMT on Tuesday, but he was chased and detained in Bangor Walk, St Ann's.

Officers recovered a machete from the roadside nearby, discarded underneath a parked car.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife in a public place.

PC Daniel Cresswell, of Nottinghamshire Police's knife crime team, said the incident came as the unit was carrying out increased plain-clothes officer patrols in the city centre and nearby areas "due to recent knife crime-related incidents" in March.
