A bridge has been closed in York city centre following a car fire.

Emergency services were called to Lendal Bridge, which links Museum Street and Station Road, North Yorkshire Police said.

A spokesperson said officers were working alongside crews from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service to bring the blaze under control.

No one was believed to have been injured, but motorists were advised to avoid the area.

Bus operator First York said services would be diverted until further notice.

The fire service has been approached for comment.
