A car that was set on fire and abandoned in a town park nearly four months ago is to be removed.

Charles Pais, 73 who lives off Icknield Way, Luton said the car had been on the nearby recreation ground for about 15 weeks.

He said it was a health and safety hazard and was "being used as a bin by the public which will attract vermin".

A spokesperson for Luton Council said: "We understand residents' concerns and appreciate their patience while we work to remove the vehicle safely."

Luton Council said the burnt out car had been moved to a more accessible area to allow it to be removed

Mr Pais said the car was originally on one side of the park before it was moved to the front close to the Icknield Way play area.

He said he had repeatedly called Luton Council asking for it to be removed.

The local authority spokesperson said: "The burnt-out vehicle is scheduled to be removed by our contractor tomorrow morning (21 August).

"When it was first reported, the vehicle was in a location that made recovery difficult. It has since been moved by our team to a more accessible area, allowing us to arrange for its safe removal.

"We encourage residents to report abandoned vehicles via the Love Clean Streets, external app and website."
