A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a person died following a house fire.

The victim, in his 30s, was found in a critical condition after the blaze broke out at a property on Saxons Way in Highters Heath, Birmingham, shortly after 01:00 BST on Friday.

He was taken to hospital for treatment but died a short time later, West Midlands Police said.

The 47-year-old suspect was arrested on Friday night, police said, adding that he remains in custody while inquiries continued.

West Midlands Fire Service said a woman from a neighbouring property had to be led to safety, but the fire was contained to one home.

Police said on Friday that it was believed to have been started deliberately.
