A man in his 70s has died after a rail replacement coach crashed into Carlisle railway station last month.

The coach, which was replacing a Transpennine Express service, hit the building at about 18:20 GMT on 30 November.

The British Transport Police said a man in his 40s from Cumbria was arrested in connection and has been released on bail while inquiries continue.

Officers are looking for witnesses.

Avanti West Coast, which manages the day-to-day operations at the station, said the assessment of the damage to the door frame is still ongoing, with repair work expected to start in the new year.

Meanwhile, temporary arrangements are still in place for getting to and from the platforms.

A spokesperson for TransPennine Express said they are assisting with the police investigation.
