Authority welcomes accessible play equipment

New accessible play equipment installed in a sports field will enable those with disabilities to "have the same opportunities as other children", a northern local authority has said.
A grant of about £9,300 from the Manx lottery Trust enabled Bride Commissioners to install a wheelchair carousel and bird's nest swing.
Local authority clerk Lisa Sims said that residents and the commissioners had "expressed their concern for the equipment for some time" and the improvement was "much-needed".
Situated in the Bride Village Sports Fields, the swing enables children who "do not have good core strength to lie and be gently pushed" while the roundabout is accessible to wheelchair users, she said.
The new equipment would "assist in bringing children up to the village" and "benefit future generations to come", Ms Sims continued.
She said the two structures had replaced a climbing frame, which was in the Millenium Field, and a hanging swing in the Sports Field, which had "come to the end of their useful life".
The new equipment was a "massive improvement to the village", and the commissioners would "to continue to add pieces each year if we can", she added.
