A police base is set to be opened in a town that saw its police station closed seven years ago.

Sixty officers will move to a site in Stourbridge town centre in the summer, West Midlands Police has confirmed.

The neighbourhood and response officers are currently based in Brierley Hill police station, three miles away.

Finding a new permanent home in Stourbridge has taken time for a number of reasons, said the force, including changes to its operating model, and other locations not being secure enough or too costly.

'Promise made'

Relocating officers to the town was "great news" for them and the people they served, the force said.

It also delivered on the promise made when the old station closed that a new home in Stourbridge would be found, it added.

The original Victorian police station on New Road was shut in 2017, but the location of the new base is yet to be confirmed.

In 2023, it was announced that West Midlands Police was set to close at least 30 of its police stations as it looked to save money.
