Guernsey's health committee has blamed issues with recruitment and retention of staff on the island's housing crisis.

Guernsey's top political committee (P&R) has been asked for details of how much it spends on accommodation for health staff.

Questioner Deputy Chris Le Tissier has also asked for a breakdown of the jobs of those living in properties administrated by the Health and Social Care Committee (HSC).

A lack of housing has been identified as a key issue for HSC, which it said impacted waiting times and space at the island's hospital.

The committee has 15 days to respond to Mr Le Tissier.

'Much expenditure publicity'

Mr Le Tissier has requested "full details of all of the properties either owned, leased, rented or used by HSC as HSC staff accommodation and in the case of rented or leased properties the date of the expiry of the lease or rental."

Alongside this, he has also asked for details of the number of accommodation units per property, and the number occupied and unoccupied.

The information has been requested under rule 14 of the States' rules of procedure.

Mr Le Tissier said: "There has been much publicity recently about large capital expenditure by States' committees.

However, nothing much has been said in detail about running costs, which can be significant.

"Therefore I have asked some questions on that subject via the Policy and Resource Committee that relate to Health and Social Care and their accommodation costs."
