Murder arrest after man, 76, attacked near station

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following an attack on a 76-year-old man near a train station on Thursday night, West Midlands Police have said.

Officers were called to Birchfield Road in Perry Barr shortly before 22:00 BST.

They said paramedics found Alvin Callum in a serious condition, with a police investigation establishing that he had been assaulted.

A 30-year-old man was arrested just after 20:30 on Friday in the Perry Barr area and he remained in custody on Saturday, the force said, and it appealed for anyone with dashcam, CCTV or mobile phone footage to get in touch.
