A man has been arrested on suspicion of possessing an imitation firearm in a public place, police have said.

Devon and Cornwall Police said officers were deployed to Plymouth city centre on Thursday at about 20:00 GMT.

The force said a 47-year-old man from Plymouth was arrested on suspicion of possessing an imitation firearm in a public place and a racially aggravated public order offence.

It said the man remained in police custody.

Police said officers in the city centre were "flagged down" by concerned members of the public.

The force said: "A search of a nearby property led officers to locate a number of replica firearms. These have been seized."
