Two 84-year-old women have been taken to hospital with "life changing" injuries after being hit by a car on a zebra crossing.

The incident happened near a Tesco Express store on Bricknell Avenue, Hull, at about 18:50 GMT on Tuesday when a black Ford Fiesta reportedly crashed into the women.

Humberside Police said the women suffered serious injuries which were believed to be life changing.

The force said the driver of the car failed to stop at the scene and a 39-year old man was later arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Anyone with information about the incident, or dashcam footage, is being asked to contact police by calling 101.
