Residents have been allowed to return to their homes after being evacuated following a car fire and "suspicious items" were found in a common close in Paisley.

Emergency services were called to the blaze in the George Street area of the Renfrewshire town at about 08:15.

Police Scotland said a number of "suspicious items" were assessed and there was found to be no threat to the wider public.

There were no reported injuries and a 41-year-old man has been arrested and charged over the incident.

The 41-year-old is due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court on Tuesday in connection with the incident.

An earlier fire on Causeyside Street is also believed to be linked to the fire on George Street.

Both streets, along with Barr Place, have reopened following a brief closure while specialist officers assessed the area.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) sent four fire engines and specialist resources to tackle the blaze.
