Wynne Evans is set to find out who his Strictly Come Dancing partner is within the next week or so, but said he was keeping his preference for who it was "under my hat".

He said celebrity contestants and professional dancers have already taken part in a "speed-dancing" session to establish chemistry.

"You move along, move along, move along. It’s interesting to see the behind the scenes bit," he added.

The Welsh singer and presenter, who is also the face of Go Compare, has been confirmed as one of 15 celebrity contestants in the show’s latest series, which he said begins on 21 September.

Evans, who also hosts a regular show on BBC Radio Wales, said Strictly takes "over your life a little", although he admitted he had not "started training yet".

Speaking to BBC Radio Wales on Wednesday, he said he would find out who his partner is "next week, or the week after".

Asked if there was anyone he wanted to dance with, he replied: "There’s a few, but I’m keeping it under my hat at the moment.

“I’m not a dancer. I’ll be one of those who’s going on a journey."

The professionally trained opera singer earlier said he would represent "every portly, middle-aged father out there".

Evans, from Carmarthen, has had two number one classical music albums and has given more than 200 performances at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

He is also filming a new series with Gavin and Stacey star Joanna Page about the Welsh coastline.

Other celebrity contestants in the next series of Strictly include former footballer Paul Merson, broadcaster and ex-hockey player Sam Quek and comedian Chris McCausland.
