A female pedestrian in her 20s is in a life-threatening condition in hospital after being hit by a car in Birmingham, police say.

West Midlands Police and the ambulance service were called to the collision at Marsh Lane, Erdington, at about 17:20 BST on Tuesday.

The driver remained at the scene and is helping with investigations, police added.

The force said it was supporting the woman's family and has appealed for witnesses and anyone with doorbell footage to establish what happened.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the victim received specialist trauma care at the scene before being taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.
