Murder investigation launched as man dies after attack

A man who was taken to hospital with a serious head injury has died, prompting a murder investigation.

The 23-year-old victim was seriously injured on Staniforth Road in Sheffield on Saturday in what South Yorkshire Police said was a "targeted attack".

He was taken to hospital and died on Monday evening, police added.

A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery in connection with the incident and he remains in police custody.

Emergency services were called to reports of a serious assault in Darnall at about 16:35 BST.

The man, who has not been named, was found injured but died two days later.

A murder investigation has been launched by police.

The victim's family has been informed and is being supported by officers, police added.
