Man arrested over weapon and cannabis find

A man has been arrested after a firearm was found in a car during a police stop in Wednesbury, along with cannabis.

Acting on intelligence, officers pulled over a black BMW on Hydes Road in the early hours of Thursday, West Midlands Police said.

The five occupants attempted to flee the scene, it added, but were detained.

A 29-year-old man from Wolverhampton, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and possession of drugs.

However, the firearm was later confirmed to be an air weapon, the force said.

The man remains in custody for questioning.
