A bingo hall has confirmed it has closed for good after 25 years.

Mecca Bingo in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, announced that it shut on Sunday following an event over the weekend to celebrate the time it had been part of the community.

In an update posted on the Mecca Stoke website, external, customers were advised to use its sister club in Crewe, Cheshire, which is more than 14 miles away.

It added: “We’ll miss you all loads and want to thank every single one of you for your loyalty and support.”

Richard McElroy, operations director at Mecca Bingo, said the decision to close the venue was made with a heavy heart.

"Mecca Stoke has been a part of the local community for over 25 years and we want to say a huge thank you to all of our customers," he added.
